A quality, affordable housing marketing is fundamental in fostering community growth. Springfield’s homeownership rate is 42%, according to the Federal Reserve data. Down 6.5% since 2012 and significantly lower than the 65% national average, this demonstrates the need for quality, affordable housing in Springfield.

To address this issue, the city of Springfield must invest in programs that work to restore the quality of Springfield’s housing market and that support homeownership.Restore SGF is a nonprofit that has helped homeowners improve their aging homes and provided new homeowners with down payment assistance since 2023.

The organization has three grant programs that improve housing quality in Springfield and make homeownership more affordable. The Restore My Block Challenge Grant provides up to $2,500 for homeowners to remodel the exterior of their homes while working as a group with their neighbors.
