SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Housing is a topic of growing conversation around the country, and you can be part of it in Springfield this week.
Restore SGF is inviting you to its housing summit on September 17, whether you’re a key stakeholder or someone who wants to know how to improve housing in Springfield.
The organization has two goals: increasing homeownership and improving housing quality in Springfield.
How Springfield can achieve those goals is the big question that they don’t have the answer to just yet.
“In order to remain a growing region,” said Restore SGF Executive Director Brendan Griesemer, “we need to provide adequate housing, but we also need to assist people who want that American dream; they want to be able to become homeowners. How do we do that? Look at best practices from around the country and learn from other areas the best way to do that.”
This summit will start a conversation that can hopefully lead the community to those answers.
Speakers from St. Louis, Springfield, and Tennessee will talk about the state of housing and strategies for meeting current housing needs.
Housing impacts everyone, even people who are not homeowners.
“Homeownership is key,” Griesemer said. “We believe that raising the homeownership rate in Springfield will obviously impact our city better and more positively in the future, so we wanna promote homeownership where possible. Those are things when you look at household income and just outcomes, homeownership really plays well into that in any particular area.”
The summit is Thursday, September 17 at the Library Center Hatch Auditorium from 8 a.m. to noon. That’s located at 4653 S. Campbell Ave.
